Shellguard is an international military and research organization tasked with resolving the Crystalline problem on a global scale. Shellguard comprises V-positive specialists from various countries and backgrounds. The declared goal of the organization is to eliminate the Crystalline and restore the planet to its pre-Strafe condition.
History[]
Following the results of the Vancouver Global Security Summit, governments of several countries created an organization tasked with countering the Crystalline threat. The organization was named Shellguard. It was intended to be comprised only of V-Gene carriers who could operate in the Impact Zones without the risk of the Crystalline infection.
Survivors of the First Descent became instructors for new recruits. Militaries of 35 countries introduced the obligatory V-Gene Identification Test, and the ‘lucky positives’ were prompted to join Shellguard. This way, soldiers and military specialists from all over the globe combined their efforts to find a way of stopping the Crystalline for good.
Strategy[]
Shellguard is looking for a way to counter the Crystalline threat on a global scale. To this end, it deploys field research stations in the Impact Zones and conducts military operations against the Strafers. Unraveling the ‘nature’ of the Crystalline and the motives behind the Strafers’ actions is the first step to developing a global counter-strategy.
Structure[]
Shellguard comprises three structural units: Operations, Procurement, and R&D.
Current Hierarchy of Shellguard's High Command
- Operations is the unit that the protagonists represent. These are strike teams that execute various missions in the Impact Zones. They are also tasked with guarding research stations and collecting primary field data and samples. All Operatives are V-positive, which makes them immune to Red Salt effects.
- R&D: Scientists who conduct research in a laboratory environment. They are responsible for biosecurity and development of various countermeasures to the Crystalline.
- Procurement: People responsible for infrastructure and supplies: engineers, weapon suppliers, communication officers, pilots, etc.
Operatives[]
Shellguard Operatives, also referred to as Immunes, are the story protagonists. They are the characters, controlled by players. Each Operative is a former soldier, with military training or some experience within the armed forces. After the introduction of mandatory V-Gene Identification Test, all identified V-positive military personnel are assigned to Shellguard. The initial set of Operatives will be expanded over time.
